Retraxa™ was conceived on a construction site and designed for the contractor who needs to carry a hacksaw on them throughout the day and for whom space is a premium.
It folds to a very compact size with a cross-section of 1½ inches × 1½ inches and 14 inches length. The handle unfolds to become the cover, and protects the blade when stored. The frame provides 5 inches of cutting depth. It unfolds and tensions within 20 seconds.
The prototype received a NZ government R&D Grant. An International PCT Patent application number was filed on 24 March 2020 (priority date is 26 March 2019). Chinese patent granted.
